A free eye medical camp was organised here in 2016 and with the help of Shroff eye hospital, Daryaganj, for all home workers and migrant workers. It was a salient step in the field of healthcare. Japanese visitors and MD of Mitsui Chemicals Limited made the camp more graceful on that particular day. Patients registered their names with details and then, their visual activity was tested.

The next step was a preliminary examination by an ophthalmologist. Some patients were directed for some basic investigations, such as lacrimal syringing, blood pressure recording and random urine sugar estimate.

This helped to improve detection of retina cataract and glaucoma. We got more than 50 patients of cataract. The operation got done successfully without any fee. Aider followed the patients after the surgery also. One small patient from our playschool, Gajala was suffering from an eye disease called " lazy eyes, it is vision-related problem in infants and young children, that can lead to permanent vision loss. But at the same time, the medical camp was organised.  Timely assistance helped to light up the world of this little girl.

Lacrimal syringing

According to the National Blindness and Visual Impairment Survey India 2015-19. Cataract is one of the main cause of blindness in people above 50 years,
Cataract leads to 66.2 per cent blindness cases, 80.7 per cent severe visual impairment cases and 70.2 per cent moderate visual impairment cases in the age group.

Hight cost of the surgeries especially, for rural populations, migrant workers and home workers are the biggest barriers in accessing proper eye treatment or surgeries. It was the reason for 22.1 per cent blindness cases and lack of awareness was behind 18.4 per cent cases, who did not feel any need of the surgery.

So, even after that camp, we have conducted this type of free eye medical camps many times.
So far AIDER has organized 10-12 free eye camps with the collaboration of Shroff eye hospital, Daryaganj
These camps provide:-

  • Free medical checkups
  • Free medicines
  • Free blood pressure and blood sugar checkup facilities
  • Further treatment if needed
  • Provide free cataract surgery

Till now, many underprivileged populations, students, Homeworkers, migrant labourers and textile workers from age of 5 to 80 years have taken benefit from this and about 150 patients were supported for cataract surgery.

Despite many odds, it is an unwavering faith and aspiration to become a healthy and good society in tune with the changing times.
